For the International Community
New to Brussels? No French needed, no partner needed, no experience needed. Just show up on Tuesday.
Why Tango
Moving to a new city is exciting — and lonely. You know the feeling: great apartment, interesting job, but your social life is still buffering. Tango fixes that faster than any networking event or language class.
Argentine tango is a social dance built on connection. From your very first class, you'll be dancing with other people — no small talk required. The embrace communicates what words can't. Within weeks, you'll have a community of friends from every corner of the world.
Brussels has one of Europe's most active tango scenes, and a huge portion of it is international. EU institution staff, NATO employees, diplomats, researchers, freelancers — they all found each other through tango. You can too.
Why with Alla
I've lived in 19 countries. I know what it's like to arrive somewhere new and build a life from scratch. Tango was my anchor in every city — the one thing that instantly connected me to people, regardless of language or background.
All my classes are taught in English. I also speak Ukrainian — so if you're from the Ukrainian community in Brussels, we can communicate in your language too.
My teaching style is practical, patient, and focused on connection rather than figures. You'll learn to actually dance — not just memorize steps. And you'll have fun doing it.
Getting Started
Class starts at 19:15. No registration needed — it's drop-in. Wear comfortable clothes and smooth-soled shoes (no sneakers). Come alone or bring a friend.
In the first weeks we cover the embrace, the walk, musicality basics, and simple navigation. You'll be surprised how quickly your body understands what your brain is still processing.
After 4–6 weeks you'll be ready for your first milonga — a tango social dance. It's where the magic happens: live music, real connection, and the feeling that Brussels is starting to feel like home.
What Expats Say
I moved to Brussels for work at the European Commission and didn't know anyone. Three months of tango classes later, I have more friends here than I had in my home city.
Best decision I made after relocating. The classes are in English, the atmosphere is welcoming, and Alla understands the expat experience because she's lived it.
I tried running clubs, language exchanges, MeetUp groups — nothing stuck. Tango stuck. Two years in and it's the core of my social life in Brussels.
FAQ for Expats
Yes. All my classes are taught in English by default. I also speak Ukrainian. No French or Dutch is required to join — the international community is the heart of my classes.
It's one of the best. Tango is inherently social — you connect with people through dance from day one. The Brussels tango community is very international (lots of EU/NATO/international org people) and welcoming to newcomers. Many expats say tango became the centre of their social life within months.
No. Most students come alone — it's completely normal in tango. We rotate partners in class so everyone dances with everyone. Coming solo is actually the norm.
Yes, there's an active tango community among EU institution staff, NATO, and international organisation employees. Tango transcends language barriers — it's one of the few activities where your nationality and job title don't matter at all.
Perfect, actually. Tango is easier to learn without prior dance habits. The beginner class assumes zero experience. If you can walk, you can tango — the rest is practice and patience.
Tango is the same everywhere in the world. The skills you learn here travel with you — and so does the global community. Tango dancers find each other in every city. It's the best souvenir you can take from Brussels.
